I began my interest in photography as a teenager. Maybe growing up in the beautiful southwest with scenic landscapes and having a canyon in my backyard had something to do with my love of art and nature. My senior year, I saved up money all summer long from lawn mowing jobs to buy my first 35 mm SLR camera. In college I began to develop my own film and pictures prior to the advent of digital photography. I have always loved art and photography but did not really see it being a practical career choice and so it has remained an intense hobby. What you see in my photography is a love for artistic images and many techniques (aerial, astrophotography, underwater, abstract…) and subjects (landscapes, portrait, athletes, products…). I really don’t discriminate when I see something that has great light, beauty, or interest and I really want to capture it.

My work has also been influenced by the raising of two beautiful daughters and becoming their synchronized swimming team’s photographer and now the official photographer for the United States Artistic Swimming Association.

I have been most recognized for this work, having published online with National Geographic, Vogue, the Smithsonian Magazine, the Guardian’s Sunday paper, The Observer; and most recently in a book entitled Swimming Pretty on the history of synchronized swimming. I was also an official accredited photographer for the Paris Olympics in 2024!

I have received several awards from various international contests including the International Photography Awards (IPA), the Siena International Photography Awards (SIPA), the Underwater Photographer of the Year (UPY), the Sony World Photography Organization’s contest, and most recently had three finalist images in the World Sports Photography awards in the Swim and Dive category. For the last three years I have been investing time in a lot of portraiture work (aspiring models, athletes, dancers, etc.); a relatively new area for me but which has turned out to be a lot of fun!
